A couple of days back, Srija (45) a tea estate worker of Mayfield estate in Devarshola was brutally attacked by a bear which was hiding behind the bush along with its cub.
The co-workers immediately rushed her to the government hospital at Sulthan Bathery for treatment.
The estate workers laid seige at the Gudalur forest department office urging to capture the bear which has camped inside the estate with its cub.
Fearing further attack, the workers have refused to resume work at the estate.
"As the bear is seen with its cub, the possibilities of it attacking people is high. Hence, we have decided to place a trap to capture it,” said a forest official from Devarshola range.
Fruits and vegetables have been placed as bait for capturing the bear.
