Tirupur : A construction labourer, Manikanta Prabhu (25) of Badrakaliamman Street, Udumalaipettai who had received grievous injuries in a fatal attack on him while watching the latest Rajnikanth-starrer 'Petta succumbed to his injuries today, at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

According to the police, Manikantan who had gone to watch 'Petta' during a noon show in Lathangi theatre, in Udumalaipettai on January 12, allegedly picked up a quarrel with another construction worker, Tirumurthi of Mariamman Nagar who hit his head with wooden logs because Manikanta Prabhu had allegedly smoked inside the theatre while sitting next to him. The assailant fled from the scene. The injured Manikanta Prabhu who returned to his house was admitted to a private hospital and later transferred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police who began investigation nabbed Tirumurthi and have remanded him in custody, with the help of the theatre owner.
