A herd of elephants which camped at Mel Kundah entered Kandimattam area near Manjoor, last night. The elephants proceeded to trample through nearby residential areas, damaging banana plantations in the farmlands. Vegetable gardens and crops in the Poodhiyada region were also destroyed by the herd.

It is reported that these elephants have now camped on the coast of the Kerappadu river, and hence people have urged the forest department to chase the elephants away from their settlements and into the deep forest region.
