They reiterated their long term pending issues of pensions schemes, reversing of old pay schemes, pay parity with Central Government employees and seeking clear definition for promoting second grade teachers (PG) to newly opened kindergartens.
“Those who boycott the work and agitate against the Government will not be given their pay and it will be announced as loss of pay. Whoever is seeking medical leave shall provide the details to the official concerned and should not produce any proxy,” denounced the Chief Secretary, Girija Vaidyanathan, in her letter. Despite the disciplinary action warning from the Chief Secretary, the JACTO GEO workers across the State with almost 175 units have called for an indefinite strike against the Government.
While the teachers and officials under JACTO GEO are on strike, the TACTO and other organisations in the State have met the Chief Secretary and given an assurance not to participate in any protest owing to Class 12 Practical exams and students needing help to prepare," said a member of TACTO, Coimbatore. However, amidst all the regulations and strict orders, as many as 8000 JACTO GEO Association members in Coimbatore thronged the District Collectorate today, leaving school students in the lurch.
“As much as parents, we teachers are also concerned about the students and we won’t leave them abandoned. Those who shoot questions against us for taking such a step should gain knowledge of our plight and then revert back," complained a teacher. It is speculated that 400 alternative teachers in the city shall fill the absence of the protesters.
Protests by JACTO-GEO members resulted in students in Tirupur returning back to their homes during morning school hours. Students of the Government Primary School at Kumaran Nagar in Tirupur could be seen resting by the roadsides since the school was not open today. Parents expressed their grief lamenting that the education of their children is being affected, owing to the protest.
