Tirupur : Thousands of devotees carried the chariot in the 'Thaipusam' festival held at Sivanmalai temple in Kangeyam. The festival had begun on January 15, with a flag hoisting at the Subramaniya Swami temple in Sivanmalai, near Kangeyam.

A pooja was done with milk and curd yesterday, followed thereafter by the ‘magara pushya nalrorai.’ A chariot procession was carried out in the evening in which officials of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and devotees took part. Devotees made ‘arogara’ chants during the chariot procession which ended at South Street, after travelling about 300 metres. The chariot will be carried for another procession on ‘girivala padhai’ by devotees, today and tomorrow. Thousands of devotees from Tirupur, Kangeyam, Vellakoil, Dharapuram and Palladam are expected to take part in this procession.
