Coimbatore : Even as the City is all set to host the biggest Ecological Festival of Western Ghats between February 1st and 3rd at Krishna Group of Institutions here, the organisers of the flagship event have sought financial help from Coimbatoreans to make the event a success.

In a recent discussion amongst members from various NGOs who are involved in the festival, they have decided to vigorously crowd pool the required amount to run the three days event successfully.

“With the event being completely organised by various NGOs that work for the conservation of Western Ghats including the Save Western Ghats movement, the request general public and corporate houses to support for this event that concerns people from all walks of life,” said an organiser.

He further added that since delegates are expected from six States on which the Western Ghats lie and experts from all across the Globe could also participate, travel and accommodation could also be challenging.

To cater to the needs, the team have opened an account to crowd pool finance and have requested for contributions from people.

Stressing for legal protection of the Western Ghats, the conference would see more than 7000 people including experts, scientists, law makers, students and general public join together for three days and discuss what needs to be done to ensure the conservation of the mountain range.

They are also to create awareness about the reports filed by Madhav Gadgil and Kasthurirangan on the Western Ghats and inform the authorities about the issues discussed in them.

They have offered invitations to law makers from the State Governments of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa. The Central Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has also been invited.
