In a glaringly wrong precedent, AIADMK leaders and cadres who took part in a bike rally organized in the city marking MGR's 102nd birth anniversary celebrations, did not wear the mandatory helmet, raising many eyebrows among the public.
Led by VC Aarukutti, the Kaundampalayam legislator, many leaders including the MGR Youth Wing Secretary Jayaraman and others took part in the rally. But none of them chose to give a thought to wearing the mandatory helmet at a time when road safety awareness programs are held regularly.
“When political leaders and cadres take part in a public event like a bike rally, they should follow road rules and set a good example for others to follow. But it was shocking to see that none of the bike rallyists followed the mandatory helmet rule and flouted the rules in such a callous manner,” said an eye witness to the rally which was taken out in the Kaundampalayam legislative assembly limits.
