Tirupur : Members of the Tamil Nadu Theendamai Olippu Munnaniyinar petitioned at the District Collectorate today, demanding for removal of the untouchability fence erected at Alagumalai in Tirupur.

The petition states, "A fence was erected at the Alagumalai Panchayat in Pongalur, near Tirupur last year, due to which around 150 families have to travel for 2 km to fetch water. Following this, the Theendamai Olippu Munnani and other fronts had announced a protest urging to remove the fence, following which the District authority removed a small part of the fence. Meanwhile, the District authority along with the Hindu Endowment Board is keen on constructing an entrance at the area where the fence was removed which is highly condemnable. So necessary action should be taken to remove the fence completely."
