Coimbatore : The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam farmers petitioned the Collector today, demanding that the government announce loan waiver schemes and table a separate national budget for the agriculture sector. Led by S Palanisamy, the President of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, the farmers thronged the Collectorate urging for the fulfillment of their rightful demands.
Coimbatore : The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam farmers petitioned the Collector today, demanding that the government announce loan waiver schemes and table a separate national budget for the agriculture sector. Led by S Palanisamy, the President of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, the farmers thronged the Collectorate urging for the fulfillment of their rightful demands.
Speaking to the media later, S Palanisamy said, "The Coimbatore district has vast acreage of cultivable lands and agriculture is the main avocation of the people in rural areas. Cropping has been a challenge due to factors such as water scarcity and changing climatic conditions. In this scenario, the farmers could not pay back the agri loans that they had availed from banks. The government should come forward to waive away all the current loans for the welfare of the farmers.”
The farmers also urged for minimum support price for their produce and demanded that a separate budget for the farming sector be tabled in the Parliament, in February.
