According to reports, a family from Chennai was returning from the Nilgiris after the ‘Kaanum Pongal’ celebrations when the minivan in which they were travelling unexpectedly toppled near the first hairpin bend near Kotagiri. Following this, all members in the minivan were rescued and admitted to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital. Among them were Sasikumar (31), Suba (24), Kumar (22), Preethi (18), Ammu (40), Kavitha (34), Dakshanamoorthy (21), Abinaya (14), Arul Kumar (42), Dravid (18), Dhanush (15), Jothika (16), Ravi (51), Sarala (40), Raja (48), Ravi (47), Sangeetha (36) and Sri Latha (19).
Meanwhile, Kumar who was being treated at the intensive care unit, died yesterday without responding to treatment. The kin of the deceased allege that Kumar's death was due to negligence in treatment.
