Coimbatore : As the ongoing disapproval of terms between the Pricol management and one of the two labour unions, AICCTU has crossed over six months, the Pricol management has appealed to the District Collector, T.N. Hariharan to amicably settle the issue and advice the union members to re-join duty.
Coimbatore : As the ongoing disapproval of terms between the Pricol management and one of the two labour unions, AICCTU has crossed over six months, the Pricol management has appealed to the District Collector, T.N. Hariharan to amicably settle the issue and advice the union members to re-join duty.
In the letter addressed to the District Collector T.N.Hariharan, the management of Pricol has briefed about the synopsis of the ongoing issue which originated in 2007, the nature of business and detailed on the different units of Pricol functioning at various parts of the country.
According to the management, "The unrest in the company kicked-off after the inception of Coimbatore District Pricol workers welfare union affiliated to AICCTU". The appeal to the Collector emphasises on the series of problems triggered by the union members and importantly the tripartite agreement reached between the Union, Management and the Government agencies.
The management reinstated that they have abided to their part of the agreement. "While talks on new agreement terms were ongoing in March 2018, the union members struck work on August 3, 2018 and went on an indefinite strike".
"The intention of the union to hold strikes is highly malicious. Even after knowing of the Diwali orders to the company that needs to be processed on time, the Union went on a strike thereby disrupting the production. Their prejudicial actions have caused severe losses to the company and thus leading to mistrust among our clients. Left with no option, we had to reallocate the orders to our other units in the Country", the Management noted in their appeal.
It also added that "After holding a series of talks, the striking union workers atlast agreed to return to work. As mentioned earlier, as the company had to reallocate orders to other units, we were able to place only a few of the workers in the Coimbatore Unit and the rest had to be transferred to other units in the country. Due to which unrest returned in the company. Few of the workers refused to join the assigned units and continued the strike".
"Meanwhile, after the tripartite talks held on December 22, 2018 and January 8, 2019, the district administration warned that water and electricity connections will be disconnected and the unit will be sealed off. In this scenario, the AICCTU affiliated union members are using this as an opportunity to spread rumours of closure of the company which has instilled fear among the other workers. Such acts will only worsen the instability prevailing in the company and thus questioning the livelihood of 3000 workers", the appeal added.
"Not just the employees, the economy of the Coimbatore region will also be affected in the long run", stated the appeal from the Management to the District Collector.
Citing the aforesaid reasons, the Pricol Management have requested the District administration to refrain from taking any punitive action against the company but advice the striking employees to join the respective units at the earliest.
The company assured to the District Collector that it will take steps to bring stability in the unit and thereby contribute to the economic growth of the region.
