According to reports, Prabakaran of Kaikatti near Kotagiri and his wife Sajitha were a couple with two children, both girls aged 15 and 4.
Prabakaran died five months ago. Sajitha took care of her children by working at a private lodge in Kannerimukku here. It is reported that Sajitha had a drinking habit. Two days ago, Sajitha filed a complaint with the police stating that her four-year old girl, Harshini, was missing.
Meanwhile, the police recovered the corpse of Harshini from a well at the lodge where Sajitha was working. Following this, Kotagiri SI, Nagaraj registered a case against Sajitha and commenced investigation. The investigation revealed that Sajitha who was unable to take care of her children after the demise of her husband had become alcoholic.
"Since, none were willing to lend a helping hand, I was helpless. I decided to kill Harshini with a thought of taking care my other girl in a good manner. So, I threw Harshini into the well," was Sajitha's statement, according to police investigation. Following this, Sajitha has been lodged at the Coimbatore Central prison after being apprehended at Kotagiri.
