Coimbatore : Around 500 people from various walks of life joined together and carried out a march in an attempt to create awareness about the dying wild animals and eroding forests of India.
Coimbatore : Around 500 people from various walks of life joined together and carried out a march in an attempt to create awareness about the dying wild animals and eroding forests of India.

The march that began in front of the Income Tax Office today morning, was organised by Humane Animal Society (HAS) as a part of the India Green and Wild citizens movement that is happening in over 50 cities across the country.

The participants including school students, college students, professionals and general public held placards that carried words about the importance of forests and wild animals.

Talking about the event, A. Alphonse Xavier, Programme Manager of HAS said that at a time when forests were destroyed in the name of development, it was important that people become aware and stand up for the conservation of forests.
“We cannot be sure if the same amount of forest that are today would stand in the next ten years. It should be conserved for us and our future generations,” he added.
The motto of the national walk was the protection, conservation of natural resources and correction of lifestyle of humans to achieve and sustainable ecosystem.

After the event, the volunteers are also to take the awareness programme to schools to educate children.
