Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu local body Ombudsman has sought a report from Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) for not implementing the grievance redressal body's order to upload council resolutions in the CCMC website, with immediate effect issued on August 20, 2018.

Thyiagarajan, an activist from Coimbatore had filed a appeal petition to the Ombudsman on March 24, 2018 stating that since July 2017 till March 2018, the council resolutions have not been updated in the Coimbatore Corporation's website. The petitioner had also claimed that this action of CCMC amounts to aiding corruption by not being transparent to the public about the resolutions passed in the council.

In a reply to the Ombudsman's query, CCMC Commissioner, Dr.K. VijayaKarthikeyan clarified that CCMC website is under updation and that all Corporation websites (excluding Chennai) were getting incorporated under Urban Tree Information system.

Based on the explanation, the Ombudsman had called for an enquiry on May 30, 2018. Based based on evidences, an order was passed on August 20, 2018 directing the CCMC to upload council resolutions with immediate effect. The council also slammed that the reasons given by the CCMC Commissioner were unacceptable.

"Even after four months of the Ombudsman's order, CCMC is yet to update the council resolutions", alleges RTI Thiagarajan the activist who filed the petition.

"An email has been sent to the Ombudsman regarding the non-implementation of the body's order. Responding to the email, the Ombudsman has sent a notice to CCMC Commissioner seeking a report on the same", he added.

Activist Thiagarajan noted "The Council resolutions have not been uploaded for the past 1 1/2 years. Even after the Ombudsman's order in August, CCMC has not updated the details till date. If the CCMC fails to respond this time, we will file a writ petition in the High court".
