Coimbatore : A feud among the two labour unions at Pricol has brought one union to petition against the other to the Joint Labour Commissioner, today.
Pricol workers welfare union affliated to AITUC has complained against Coimbatore District pricol workers unity association (AICCTU) claiming that actions of AICCTU has resulted in job losses to nearly 2430 workers- both contract and permanent labourers employed at Pricol.
In a petition submitted to the Joint Labour Commissioner, the AITUC affliated union has alleged that "Our union has 600 permanent workers. We have been focussed on striving towards the welfare of the workers. However, the malicious activity of AICCTU has made employees lose their jobs and questioned their livelihood. Around 1500 contract workers, 800 unit workers and 133 permanent workers at Pricol have lost their jobs due to AICCTU".
In the ongoing talks with the District Collector and the Joint Labour Commisioner, regarding the transfer of 302 workers, the union wishes to bring an amicable ending to the issue, their petition added.
"But it has come to the Union's knowledge that based on the outcome of the talks held on January 8, the officials took a decision to disconnect water and electricity connections and further seal off the unit", it noted.
As this action will jeopardise the livelihood of 4000 families, AITUC has requested the officials to bring in an amicable solution through peaceful mediation.
