The Naxal Special Division (NSD) has stepped up surveillance in the Tamil Nadu forest limits, based on a tip-off to the Intelligence department on Maoist movement in the region.
In the recent days, the Maoist movement has increased in the Kerala forests near Malappuram and Wayanad. Recently, they were spotted near Attamala with guns and have allegedly interacted with the tribal people.
The vigil was heightened after Maoists pasted posters in Tamil, Malayalam and English in Kerala and TN. They were identified as members of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army.
Following which the NSD personnel conducted combing operations at areas under Pillur dam police station limits including Sembakkarai, Thoomanur, Gopanari, Gudapatti, Veppamarathur and Sundapatti. NSD personnel has also intensified surveillance at regions between Thaneerpalam and Mulli river.
Police have stuck posters of 30 identified Maoists at different places in 50 tribal villages. And have advised the tribal people to inform them, if they suspect any unknown persons inside the forests.
