The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued an advisory to all State governments to transfer officials who have been working in the same place for more than three years, in view of the upcoming national elections and elections for the four State assemblies in the country.
While citing that the national elections should be completed before June 3, and the process of transfer should be expedited, the advisory letter said that the officials working in the same place for more than three years (as on May 31 ) should be transferred and posted in a new place.
In the letter addressed to the Chief Secretaries and State Election Commissioners of all states, the ECI has said that the officials who are directly involved in the election process such as District Collectors, Tahsildars, SPs and DIGs and Sub-Inspectors should be transferred, whereas the order does not apply to teachers and medical doctors.
"The transfer process should be effected before February 28 and transfer orders released in the first week of March," noted the ECI in the letter.
