In a candid media briefing, the veteran actor-politician Kamal Haasan who is the President of Makkal Needhi Maiyam, said, "I am fulfilling my duties toward the people of Tamil Nadu who have celebrated me for over 60 years as a film actor. I would call my political entry not even service, but as my "duty" toward the people of Tamil Nadu. We have been busy opening party offices in various towns and cities in Tamil Nadu, and a decision whether I would contest the upcoming elections will be arrived at, later,“ revealed Kamal Haasan.

Kamal Haasan was of the opinion that basic amenities were lacking in Government schools which ought to be addressed by the Government. "It is imperative that far-reaching solutions should be evolved in water body conservation, women’s health, education and the farming sector, and for that experts should be roped in to address the problems,” highlighted Kamal Haasan.

"As for the reservation policy, the economically backward people should be given reservation only after the social problems of the underprivileged are eliminated from the society. The benefits of reservation have not even reached many pockets and sections of people in the country," opined Kamal Haasan. He also reiterated that the Tamil Nadu police should do an unbiased probe into the Kodanadu murder-cum-heist incident.

Kamal Haasan emphasized that his party would tie up with like-minded parties before the election and chose to call his "acting career" as a "profession" and "politics" as his "duty."
