Coimbatore : Rathinavani 90.8 Community Radio (CR), run by the Rathinam Group of Institutions becomes the first CR from Coimbatore to collaborate with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), in the eradication of child marriage and continuation of their education here.
Rathinavani is one among the 16 CRs all across the county selected by the Community Radio Association to be a part of the programme which is sponsored by UNICEF.
They have been selected based on their contribution to various community development activities by means of awareness creation.
According to Mukesh Mohankumar, Radio Head of Rathinavani CR, the heads of the select CRs would be given an orientation at Indore in Madhya Pradesh the 7th and 8th of February through a workshop model.
“The idea to involve CRs as community based platforms to reach out and engage with communities was initiated by UNICEF to catalyze local actions, amplify solutions and issues concerning women, adolescents and children,” a statement said.
The major focal points of the programme would be girls’ education and eradicating child marriage. The statement added that emphasis would also be given on responsive parenting and positive masculinity.
The CR stations would make regular radio based programmes on these issues where local barriers, motivators and best practices are to be discussed and amplify positive deviants.
