Coimbatore : To the surprise of many devotees, a pet parrot which flew away from its owner has taken refuge inside a Mariamman temple and refusing to leave the temple, even after a day has lapsed.

Murugesan, a daily wager of Pappanaickenpalayam here has been raising a pet parrot for the past year. A couple of days back, Murugesan and his family took up whitewashing of his house for Pongal. While doing so, the pet parrot was reportedly scolded by the young son of Murugesan for disturbing them by moving here and there during their chores.

Upset by the incident, the parrot reportedly flew away from the house and took refuge in the nearby Mariamman temple.

The parrot which entered the sanctum sanctum of the temple sat on the shoulders of the Mariamman idol and refused to budge even when the priest tried to coax it to emerge outside.

“The parrot has stayed put at the sanctum sanctum even after a day. However, much I tried the parrot is not ready to let go of its newfound shelter” said the priest.

The kind priest also fed the parrot with guava fruit and red pepper as the parrot has not taken any food since it flew in into the temple.

The devotees who have been thronging the temple are wonderstruck at the way the pet parrot is behaving and why it is refusing to leave the temple complex.
