Tourist vehicles from Mettupalayam, Kothagiri and Coonoor will pass via Charing Cross junction to reach Ooty. To alert motorists about various traffic regulations, the district police has installed a digital board here which is linked to SP Shamugha Priya’s mobile phone through a SIM card.
Road safety messages like wearing seatbelts, wearing helmets, helmets for pillion riders, no overtaking in curves and various other messages will be sent from SP’s handset to the board. The Police Superintendent can send messages to the board from any part of the district.
Nilgiris police are planning to install similar digital boards at other signal junctions as well to create awareness amongst motorists about road safety.
