Coimbatore: West Zone IG Periaiah handed over a cheque of Rs 30 lakhs at his office premises today to the family of a constable who died in road accident in Krishnagiri last year.
Coimbatore: West Zone IG Periaiah handed over a cheque of Rs 30 lakhs at his office premises today to the family of a constable who died in road accident in Krishnagiri last year.
Periyannan (29), who was a constable with the Armed Reserve Police force in Krishnagiri joined the police force in 2011. In July last year, Periyannan met with an accident in Dharmapuri town and although he was rushed to the hospital he died without responding to treatment. He is survived by his wife Suganthi and two-and-half-year-old daughter Adiksha. Periyannan had his salary account at Axis bank here. The bank offered free accidental insurance of Rs 30 lakhs for the salary accounts of uniformed personnel.

Following Periyannan’s death, the bank paid a cheque of Rs 30 lakhs to Periyannan’s family at IG office here. Senior police officials and Axis bank’s Coimbatore regional head Sakthivel was also present during the event.
