Various trade unions had announced a two-day nationwide protest on the issue of anti-labour and divestment policies of the current Union Government. As the two-day strike began today, around 10,000 autos are not operational in Coimbatore.

Speaking on this, S Moorthy, the General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Road Transport Workers Union said, "More than 10 trade unions from Coimbatore took part in the strike, jointly conducted by various trade unions across the country. Around 10,000 autos are not operating in the city today, which is the first day of the strike."
