The Tamil Nadu Government has warned state government employees and contract workers not to heed the strike call given by major Central Trade Unions, on January 8 and 9, for it would invite stringent action against them.
The State government further warned that if contract workers take part in the strike called by INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC and other unions, they would be dismissed from service.
It is estimated that 15 crore employees are to take part in the nation-wide strike called by the Central Trade Unions against the government's alleged “anti-worker” policies and unilateral labour reforms.
In Tamil Nadu, various Government employee organizations, bank employees associations and labor unions have extended their support to the strike call, due to which normal functioning of banks, transport and other offices are expected to be severely hit.
