Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Zone members of Tamil Nadu-Puducherry Paper cup Manufacturers Association petitioned at the District Collectorate urging for an order to be passed whereby paper cups will be used as an alternative to plastic cups.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Zone members of Tamil Nadu-Puducherry Paper cup Manufacturers Association petitioned at the District Collectorate urging for an order to be passed whereby paper cups will be used as an alternative to plastic cups.
The petition stated, "More than 1000 people across Tamil Nadu are involved in the paper cup manufacturing business which is carried out in 45 factories in the district of Coimbatore.
Among the list of 14 plastic items banned, 14 types of paper were included. Paper cups consists of 6 percent low density poly ethanol, which we are planning to reduce to 4 percent as sought by the State government. The final draft of this will be sent for the approval of the State government very soon, since paper cups are a better alternative to plastic cups which the Government should consider. We have taken a loan from the District Industrial Centre for our paper cup manufacturing business which has been stopped as per the Government order. Owing to this, we could not repay our loan amount for which the District Collector should help us," noted the petition.
