Coimbatore : In a public grievance meeting held at the District Collectorate today, around 10 students of the B.Com and M.Com departments of Sri Rajalakshmi Arts and Science College helped the petitioners who could not write out their demands in their petitions.

The students aided the illiterate petitioners to file their petition by writing down their demands, a gesture that has garnered appreciation for the students.

Every week, during the public grievance meeting at the District Collectorate, some who are illiterate struggle to write out their demands in the petitions and hence are always on the look out for someone to help them. While some members of the public help them file their petitions by writing down the demands as a free service, some do the favour for exchange of money.

A few years ago, the District administration urged college students to help the illiterates during public grievance meetings, following which students came forward to volunteer. Meanwhile, since there were no takers recently for the service to continue every week, Sri Rajalakshmi Arts and Science College students have once again taken it upon themselves to restart the service, which has been highly commended.
