Speaking at the occasion, the District Collector said, "318 full time ration shops and 89 part time ration shops accounting to a total of 407 ration shops are functioning in the district. There are 2,11,349 card holders in the District.
A sum of Rs. 23,80,95,215 has been allocated for Pongal gift distribution in the Nilgiris district that includes Rs.2 crore 67 lakhs 98 thousand and 112 worth gift hampers and Rs 21 crore 12 lakhs 59 thousand in cash.
"Distribution will begin tomorrow and continue till January 12", she noted.
