Coimbatore Corporation Officials seize around 2000 kg of banned plastics from shops

Coimbatore: In a bid to ensure 100% implementation of plastic ban in Tamil Nadu, the Corporation Officials, here are on a strict vigil to annihilate usage of banned plastics among traders in the City.


Coimbatore: In a bid to ensure 100% implementation of plastic ban in Tamil Nadu, the Corporation Officials, here are on a strict vigil to annihilate usage of banned plastics among traders in the City. 

As per orders from Corporation Commissioner, Dr. K. VijayaKarthikeyan, a team of officials have been conducting raids at various shops at all five zones in the city. 



Speaking on this, Corporation Commissioner said, "During the raid, the officials have seized 1759.5 kg of banned plastics from nearly 2189 shops in the city. And, a total of Rs. 2,30,410 fine was levied". 

He also added that during the raid the officials created awareness among the traders on eco-friendly alternatives and urged them to switch over to such materials. 

Zone-wise details of the raid:

North Zone - 215 kg of banned plastics seized from 463 shops. Fine of Rs. 1.58 lakhs levied. 

South Zone - 301.5 kg banned plastics seized from 532 shops. A fine of Rs 13,000 levied.

East Zone - 239 kg seized from 354 shops. A fine of Rs 18,500 levied.




West Zone - 649 kg of banned astics seized from 673 shops. A fine of Rs 18,350 levied.




Central Zone - 355 kg of banned plastics seized from 167 shops and a fine of Rs 22,360 levied.
