Coimbatore: Doctors in the city reported to work today wearing black badges as an expression of their opposition for the removal of the Indian Medical Council and enacting of the National Medical Commission.
Addressing the media, the President of the Indian Medical Association, Coimbatore Chapter, Dr. Vinod Rajkumar said, "Removing Indian Medical Council and enacting National Medical Commission is against democracy. Bringing the medical field under the Consumer Protection Act will entail issuing compensation to the victims without bringing it to the consent of the medical experts. This measure will lead to many fraudulent cases.
Due to this, medical expense will rise which will widely affect the public, even for first aids and other more complicated treatment in nearby hospitals. Forming tribunals comprising of judges, advocates, police officials and doctors at the state and national levels is the only solution."
"Meanwhile, the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha while action was initiated already to pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha. To deter this and create awareness among the public, we are showing our protest by wearing black badges. If the Centre does not reconsider our demands, we have planned to continue our protests," reiterated Dr.Vinod.
