Coimbatore: A group of Salai Paniyarlargal (road workers) attached to the Highways Department staged an agitation, demanding fulfillment of their charter of demands.

The workers demanded that the 41-month suspension period should be considered as pay period and an order issued to that effect, regularization of pay should be made for unskilled laborers and pay scales of Rs.5200 and Rs.20200 extended to them. The road workers urged the Government to scrap the contract given to a third party for maintenance of State roads.

Murugesan, the President of Salai Paniyalargal Sangam said, "Even though the Highway Department is functioning under CM Edapadi Palanisamy, he has turned a blind eye to our problems. If our demands are not met, we would intensify our agitation further,” reiterated Murugesan.
