Mettupalayam : The Forest Department personnel have been engaged in removing grasses which are over grown along the roadsides of Mettupalayam - Ooty - Kotagiri stretch.

Due to bountiful rainfall, a lush carpet of overgrown green grass has swathed the waysides of the road, winding through the ghat section which in turn invites elephants, bisons and deer to wander the road space deterring traffic, thus leading to man-animal conflict.
Road users throw all caution to winds and speed, even as elephants block their way which might result in fatal accidents.
“The overgrown grasses and shrubs have grown up to two feet height, which is being cleared to deter elephants venturing along the roadside, the works will be completed in a few days,” said the Forest staff, engaged in the work.
