Coimbatore Vizha kickstarts to ‘Impact and Inspire’ the City with Food, Fun, Culture and Learning

Coimbatore : The 11th edition of the Coimbatore Vizha began amidst jubilant fanfare in the city today, in a conscious effort to also ‘Impact and Inspire’ the city.


Coimbatore : The 11th edition of the Coimbatore Vizha began amidst jubilant fanfare in the city today, in a conscious effort to also ‘Impact and Inspire’ the city.

The Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, K Vijayakarthikeyan and the Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan inaugurated the Coimbatore Vizha which will go on till January 12.



The Coimbatore Vizha is bringing 103 organisations under one umbrella to host 126 events for denizens to celebrate over the next 10 days, with some new and exciting programs lined up.

To impact and inspire Coimbatore’s residents and also the students, the Coimbatore Vizha will host a ‘Science and Technology Fest’ involving around 270 functional exhibits by school and college students which will be displayed at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, on January 6 and 7.



Another exciting feature of this year’s edition of Coimbatore Vizha is the 'Coimbatore Parad' where 33 cultural organizations will be organising a special cultural parade on the evening of January 6 at the Race Course. Following the previous edition's success with street food,’ this year’s Vizha will again have an 'Eat Street,' a street food festival where Coimbatore's restaurants will serve a feast of the city’s most popular dishes, all under one roof at the Codissia Grounds from January 4-6.

For the first time, the organisers of the Vizha have planned to put up a Pongal pavilion at the city’s airport to celebrate the festival. A movie night, which will be part of the outdoor movie fest will also give the denizens the pleasure and experience of watching a movie in an 'amphitheatre' at Codissia from January 9-12. The organisers have planned to screen English, Tamil and Hindi movies.

On January 12 and 13, the roads around Race Course will resemble an art gallery as a backdrop to the Kovai Street Art Fest, ‘Oviya Santhai.’ 67 assistants and painters from across the country will display their work.

There will be a Coimbatore Open Quiz program which will be held at the Suguna Auditorium on January 12. A heritage car show for car lovers in the city will be held on January 12 at the Prozone Mall. The Kovai Music Fest and Kovai Sports Fest are a few other highlights of the Vizha this year.

Following enthusiastic response from the residents of Coimbatore and neighbouring cities, this year, the Coimbatore Vizha will feature two ‘Double Takkar’ buses for residents to go on a joy ride around the city. With today being the inaugural day, one double Takkar Bus is being operated in the city, and from Sunday the city will have two Double Takkar buses.
