Coimbatore : Beneficiaries of the 44 Green Houses that are being constructed in the Dhoomanur tribal hamlet could well enter into their new homes as officials have quickened the construction that was moving very slow so far.

According to officials, the houses that looked in pathetic condition until a few months ago, have now been completed upto 80 per cent, with minor completion procedures still pending.

“The workers are stationed in the hamlet so the construction is kept busy. The materials are also being supplied as and when necessary,” said an official.

In 2016, 42 beneficiaries from the hamlets were allotted Green Houses with the majority going to Dhoomanur settlement. Earlier, houses were constructed under the Group Houses scheme during MGR’s rule.

Later on, two more beneficiaries were added in the scheme, a sum of Rs. 2.1 lakh was fixed for each house according to the scheme and funds were to be distributed at a phased manner directly to the beneficiaries. Though the work began in 2016, not even a single house was completed in all the three settlements including Dhoomanur, Chembukkarai and Kaattusalai (Milagayampathi) combined.

While most of the houses stood roofless, some were just laid with foundation and did not rise. However, V.C. Aarukutty, MLA of the Goundampalayam Constituency told the Simplicity that the Contractor for the project has been asked to quicken the work adding that with proper support from people.

Though there was an initial delay, work has resumed once again in the village in full swing. A visit was also made to the area by officials headed by Additional Collector (Training) Sneha on Thursday, who had also arranged for special shelters for the construction team.

“We expect the finish the work in two months and the Government would dedicate the houses to the people,” an official added.
