The organisation alleged that the move has affected retail businessmen and it has increased the monopoly of foreign goods in the market. The protesters burnt biscuit packets, aerated drinks, soap, toothpaste and other goods produced by foreign FMCG companies.
Vellaiyan, President of the traders' body said, “The government instead of banning the packaging used by foreign companies, has banned recyclable plastic and this has affected retail business severely. The organisation has also decided to abolish the sale of such goods produced by foreign firms.”
