Coimbatore : Several lakhs worth of cotton was destroyed in a fire that broke out in a cotton mill at SIHS Colony, on Trichy Road in Coimbatore.
According to reports, at a cotton mill owned by Balakrishnan at SIHS Colony on Trichy Road, cotton bales which were placed in one corner of the mill caught fire suddenly and spread all over rapidly. On instructions from the District Fire Officer Balasubramaniyan, fire fighters from the Peelamedu fire station rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Reportedly, 20 cotton bags and more than 70 cotton bales worth several lakhs were destroyed int he fire. The Singanallur police have commenced an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
