Shops have cropped up in various parts of Tirupur to sell the rangoli powder to womenfolk who take a liking for decorating their courtyards in colorful rangoli during Pongal festivities and New Year.
“The New Year and the approaching Pongal has only increased the demand for the rangoli powders,” say the shopkeepers.
“Sold at Rs.5 per packet the powders are in great demand, even though the sale is seasonal, it has given good profit for us,” said the sellers, who have pitched up their shops after preparing the powder in their quarries.
“The colour powers are in great demand, during Christmas, New year and Pongal and in the ongoing Margazhi month. This only gives us a 35-day window for sales, but we are happy that the sales have picked up this year and profit wise, it has been a good year compared to last year”, said a seller.
