The Nilgiris : Toda tribes, the indigenous people of Nilgiris celebrated the New Year in Muthanadu Mund, a tribal village considered to be the headquarters of the Toda tribals in their traditional manner.

Dressed in their traditional attire, the Toda tribes who congregated for the occasion offered worship at the Toda deity temples of Moonbav, Ayanvov and offered Re. 1 coins each as offerings to the Gods.

Accompanied by traditional dance and music, the tribals danced by way of ringing in the New Year. Toda Cultural programmes including the lifting of huge stone boulders by youth were organized for the occasion.

Todas, who are one of the indigenous inhabitants of Nilgiris districts are known for their tribal practices and they live in small communities called Munds (villages) with their cattle wealth.
