Coimbatore : Tension prevailed in Singanallur when residents of Kamala Mill Colony lay siege to a local bakery found to be polluting the neighborhood, since worms from bakery effluents entered households in the area, in the past few weeks.

According to sources, N Karthik, the Singanallur legislator accompanied by residents visited Vigneshwara Bakery and asked the owner to clean up the unhygienic conditions in the bakery which was contributing to health hazards in the neighbourhood. "Foul smell along with infestation of worms in the surroundings of the bakery has been witnessed by residents in the area in the past few months," said N Karthik.

Since the owner of the bakery refused to accept his fault and spoke in a rude manner, the residents laid siege to the bakery and demanded an apology from the bakery owner. Vasan, the owner of the building in which the bakery was functioning rushed to the spot and asked the bakery owner to tender an apology for his rude behavior. Following assurances given by the bakery owner and the building owner that they would arrange to clean up the bakery surroundings, the residents gave up the protest.
