Coimbatore : The India Posts today honoured the conservation efforts taken up by the Centre for Urban Biodiversity Conservation (CUBE) Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) by releasing a special postal cover at the lake here.
Coimbatore : The India Posts today honoured the conservation efforts taken up by the Centre for Urban Biodiversity Conservation (CUBE) Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) by releasing a special postal cover at the lake here.
The postal cover titled ‘Singanallur Lake, an Urban Paradise’ was released by K. Balasubramanian, Chief Post Master General (CPMG) of Tamil Nadu and was received by Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumani in an event organised today.
The postal cover was released marking the one year anniversary of the declaration of the lake as an Urban Biodiversity Conservation Zone (UBSZ) by the Central Government. Singanallur is the first lake in the State to be declared as an UBSZ.

Talking at the event, CPMG Balasuramanian appreciated the efforts taken by the volunteers of CUBE and officials of CCMC in conserving the ecosystem at the lake. “Their efforts would be appreciated by every philatelist all over the country,” he added.
Minister Velumani, who laid the foundation stone for the Interpretation Centre at said that the lake would soon get national importance by the conservation efforts that are being up there.
The lake has been contributing to nature conservation and more than 3000 students have been educated by the volunteers here.
The Minister obliged and offered permission to a request by the volunteers to carry out the same kind of nature conservation activities at different lakes in other districts. “You can take by any lake in the State and start activities immediately,” he said.
CCMC Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan added that people involvement would be boosted at the lake with the introduction of more activities involving people. “Water body improvement was an important part of the smart city project of CCMC and conservation activities like these would contribute to the same,” he said.
