Coimbatore : To attract more investments during the Global Investment Meet 2019 (GIM) to be held between January 23-24, a road show for investment opportunities for MSMEs was held at CODSSIA today.
Speaking on the occassion, R. Ramamoorthy, President CODISSIA highlighted on the role of MSMEs in the development of Coimbatore.
"The 400 acre CODISSIA Industrial park has a capacity to host 350 industries. The park once operational will boost the employment opportunities and will be a great boon to MSMEs to avail all facilities at the Industrial park. Investments from the MSME sector for GIM 2019 will cross Rs. 3000 crore this year".
Minister for Rural development, S.P. Velumani who was the chief guest at the event stated, "Tamil Nadu has a very condusive climate for entrepreneurs and businesses to flourish. We are expecting more than Rs. 3400 crores during GIM 2019 from Coimbatore. The first edition of GIM brought in investments worth Rs. 16,532 crores, exclusively for the MSME sector. During this edition of GIM, we are expecting more than Rs. 25,000 crore to the sector".

The Minister also clarified on the various developmental works carried out at Coimbatore."We have requested our CM to approve 30% of the investments obtained through GIM for Coimbatore. Along with a sizeable investment, the CODISSIA Industrial park will provide employment opportunities for thousands of people. The Defence Innovation Park proposed to be set up at Coimbatore will also boost the economy of Coimbatore".
The Minister apprised that he has made representations to the Central Government regarding Coimbatore Airport expansion, inclusion of Coimbatore in the Mumbai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor and adding Coimbatore to the list of 10 world class cities identified by the Central Government for developmental purposes.
Coimbatore District Collector, T.N.Hariharan, T.P.Rajesh, Additional Commissioner of Industries and Commerce, Pollachi V. Jeyaraman, MLAs from Coimbatore South, North, Sulur, Singanallur , Mettupalayam, Kavundampalayam and Kinathukadavu were present at the event.
