Coimbatore : Villagers of the Perumalkovil pathi near Alanthurai are in for a shock as a leopard killed a calf and injured another in the village in broad daylight yesterday.
According to foresters, the calves belonging to Rangasamy were grazing in the foothills of Madukkarai Range. The leopard that was hiding in the area chased the herd and attacked the two cows.
On hearing the commotion, local people had scared off the big cat using crackers, which scurried off to the nearby jungle. While people reached the scene, they had found the carcass of a calf. Another calf was severely injured and was taken to a nearby Veterinary hospital.
The incident had sent a wave of fear among local people who claim that leopard trouble has not reduced in the area despite catching a leopard from there a few weeks ago.
It may be noted that a leopard was captured using a cage from Mangalapalayam on the 5th of December and was released in Thengumarahada.
