Coimbatore: Health Minister Dr. Vijayabhaskar and other officials should resign taking responsibility for two women who contracted HIV after they were transfused with infected blood said, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss at Coimbatore today.

Anbumani Ramadoss who was here to take part in a party meeting said, “The transfusion of HIV infected blood to two women in Tamil Nadu shows the poor state of public healthcare in the State. Health Minister Vijayabhaskar and other officers should take responsibility for this and resign from their posts.” He added that it was a huge mistake to transfuse HIV infected blood.

Regarding the recent farmers’ protest against the construction of high tension electric towers in agricultural land Anbumani said, “The government is treating farmers with disdain and the State government should have at least invited them for talks.” He also added that the State government should consider the protests by intermediate teachers and hike their wages.

On the Sterlite issue, Anbumani Ramadoss alleged that the State government is acting in the interest of the plant. “The State government must appoint a senior counsel to present the case in Supreme Court. The State government appointed a senior counsel for the TASMAC case but it isn’t ready to do so for Sterlite issue”, he said. Anbumani Ramadoss said that the State government should enact a separate law to protect the Kaveri delta region. He alleged that the State government hasn’t still disbursed full compensation for Gaja-hit farmers. He added that the Dam safety law would adversely affect Tamil Nadu.
