Earlier, the State government had proposed a total ban on the manufacture, storage, supply, sale, and use of single-use plastics which comes into effect from January 1. With a few days away, as water pockets, plastic cups are commonly used in TASMAC bars, the officials are yet to finalise on the alternatives.
Speaking on this, Louis, Vice-President of Bar Owners Association, Coimbatore, said, ‘Though the ban on plastics is highly appreciable, it will trigger various problems in our business. We are thinking of providing 300 ml water bottles instead of water packets and glass tumblers as an alternative for plastic and paper cups".
"However use of glass tumblers in TASMAC is not a prudent solution, as breakages will be unmanageable. We are contemplating on alternatives", he opined.
