Delhi: Minister for Local Administration SP Velumani visited Union Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu at New Delhi along with AIADMK MPs at New Delhi today and demanded not to reduce the land area to be acquired for the Airport expansion.

Minster Velumani along with Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai and AIADMK MPs visited Union Ministers Suresh Prabhu and Narendra Singh Tomar today on various demands. The Minister requested Union Minister Suresh Prabhu to withdraw Airport Authority of India’s decision to acquire only 365 acres instead 627.89 acres for the expansion of Coimbatore Airport. Minister Velumani said that the sudden decision by AAI would cause confusion amongst the landowners and it would lead to litigations at the High Court.

The Minister added that the land value of denotified lands will be affected and the media would adversely criticize the district administration. Minister also mentioned that the move would affect the industrial development, overall growth and industrial climate of the region. He also said that it would be a tedious work for the district administration to redo all the survey works. Minister requested the Union Ministry to acquire prescribed land area for the project.

The team also visited Union Minister for Rural development Narendra Singh Tomar and requested release of Rs.1753.87 Crore towards Basic Grant for the year 2018-19 and the Performance Grant of Rs.194.78 crore for the year 2017-18.
