Coimbatore: The contract workers of Tamil Nadu Electricity board (TNEB) under the Coimbatore zone have announced an indefinite strike from today, demanding permanent job and others demands.
At the zonal meeting of TNEB contract workers association held near Mettupalayam today, several contract workers alleged the State government for not taking steps to consider their plea.

Among the various demands, the contract workers predominantly demanded permanent jobs, minimum per day wages of Rs.350, issuance of identity cards.
Recalling the contribution of TNEB contract workers during the Gaja relief operations, the aggreived workers pointed that P.Thangamani, Minister for Electricity has failed to fulfil his promises to approve their demands.
As 70 percent of works in TNEB is done through contract labourers, officials here fear that routine and repair works in the Coimbatore Zone might get affected due to their strike.
