Coimbatore : A tipper lorry fell into a 200ft deep well in Chinathadagam yesterday night. Firefighters and police are involved in the rescue operations.

The tipper fell into a 200ft well located in an agricultural land owned by Rajappan, a farmer in Veerapandi here. The public here alerted police and firefighters immediately and they rushed to the spot. Police and firefighters rescued Mani, one of the persons in the tipper with grievous injuries today and he was taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. On investigation, police found that two more persons, Balamurugan and Selvan are stuck under the vehicle.

Police said that the tipper driver might have been drunken driving, overspeeding and it would have caused the accident. Police and firefighters are trying to lift the vehicle using huge cranes from the well to rescue the remaining persons. However, since the tipper fell into a dry well, police opined that chances of recovering the remaining persons alive are less.
