Based on the recent tariff, adults should pay Rs.10 and children should pay Rs.5 to visit the park, still cameras are charged Rs.10 and video cameras are charged Rs.50 here. The tree park was started by the horticulture department in 1982 under the Hill Area Development Programme near Ooty bus stand. Initially, 60 varieties of trees that grow in cold climate were planted here. However, the 1.58-hectare park lacked basic amenities like compound walls and the park wasn’t maintained properly.

Between 2006-2007, Rs.14 lakhs was spent under Hill Area Development Programme for the park and compound walls, other basic maintenance works were done in the park. New plant varieties were also planted at the park. However, due to poor popularity, very few people visited the park over the years. Local people opined that the department’s decision to collect entry fees will affect tourist turnout at the park further.
