Farmers’ ‘waiting’ protest enters ninth day, farmers hunger strike continues

Tirupur : The protest by farmers across Tamil Nadu against the installation of electric transmission towers in agricultural lands entered the ninth day today. Farmers are protesting in 16 other districts on the same demand and the hunger strike started by 18 farmers in Tiruppur entered the third day today.

In Tirupur, over 100 farmers are taking part in the protests near Kallipalayam here. Farmers from 16 districts have been protesting for past several days against the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited move to install electric transmission towers through agricultural lands. Farmers said that though they requested the governments to transmit power through electric lines along Highways, they fell on deaf ears. 



The health condition of three farmers who were indulged in hunger strike deteriorated and they were provided treatment at the protest site itself. The protesters also mimicked hanging themselves as part of their protests today.
