Coimbatore : Peelamedu police arrested an infamous ganja peddler near Vadavalli on Friday in relation with a ganja smuggling case registered in October. Police are on the lookout for his accomplices.
Coimbatore : Peelamedu police arrested an infamous ganja peddler near Vadavalli on Friday in relation with a ganja smuggling case registered in October. Police are on the lookout for his accomplices.
The accused Shaktivel from Veerakeralam has been involved in smuggling ganja for the past 20 years. According to Peelamedu police, Shaktivel sourced ganja from Padakiri in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and supplied it as 2-kilo packets to his associates. They would supply ganja amongst students, youngsters in 10 or 20-gram packets.

In October, the city police arrested a 7-member gang - Sakthivel (49), his sister Eswari (44), Ashok (31) – all three from Madurai, Gokula Kannan (23) and Muhamed Rafiq (23) from Singanallur, Dinesh Babu (23) and Praveen (24) for smuggling 110-kilo ganja near Avinashi Road. Police were on the lookout for Shaktivel, Muthulakshmi from Madurai and Mujib Rahman from Kuniamuthur in relation with the case.
Shaktivel was booked under Goondas Act twice earlier and he is facing charges in similar cases registered at Peelamedu, Thudiyalur and Vadavalli stations. Shaktivel, with the help of Rajkumar from Kumili, became a major ganja supplier here. Police have spread a dragnet for Muthuselvi and Mujeeb Rahman.
