Coimbatore : Police arrested 31 people for gambling at Kovilpalayam, near Vilankuruchi, here.
Based on a tip-off, a team of Police from Kovilpalayam police station conducted a surprise check at the residence of a person named Jayapal from Vilankuruchi.
When the police forcefully entered his residence, they found that Jayapal had transformed his residence into a gambling hub. Rooms were split into smaller rooms to carry out gambling.
Police arrested Jayapal and his friend Muthu and seized Rs. 13.80 lakh worth of cash kept for gambling. The police are on the lookout for others who escaped from the spot.
